Ready, Set, Go

I attended an open house at Governors State University for their Doctor of Physical Therapy program. I was in attendance at the last open house, but this one meant more since I had already submitted my application. I went to put a face to my application. We followed the schedule below:

Preparing for a Career as a Physical Therapist     9:30 am

Physical Therapy Tour         10:15am

Physical Therapy Doctorate Program         11:00 am

The tour was lead by two first-year students. They showed us around the classrooms, cadavers, study lounges, labs, and offices.

The open house informed me about the program such as financial aid, cost of living, classroom size, scholarship opportunities, acceptance deposit, interviews, PTCAS, career outcomes, curriculum, clinical information and so much more.

My initial intentions were to meet Dr. Diers, the admissions committee chairperson, to go over my chances. Unfortunately, he was unable to attend the open house. I noticed that his email address was on the paperwork I received so after I left I sent him an email to schedule an appointment. Within a day he responded to me and we were able to schedule an appointment for the upcoming Thursday at 9 am. I was ecstatic to hear from him so quickly.

I recommend attending open houses because they are so informative. I want to stress the importance of going out to meet people from the program. One-on-one opportunities could open doors that could make a difference when reviewing your application.
