Hampton University

That one time I traveled to Virginia from Chicago to visit Hampton University’s Physical Therapy program. That was the first time I took a solo trip to visit two open houses that were not within driving distance from where I lived. I wasn’t even a bit nervous about the trip. I had planned to go on the trip with another friend, but she had something come up and I didn’t want to change my plans because she couldn’t make it. So I planned to fly into Virginia Friday night Uber to my hotel and Saturday I would spend the day at the open house.

I should give a little background about how I found out about the open house before I continue. So the open house was not announced on the website so I decided to call and ask when they were going to have an open house and was told it was the weekend I got there. Fast forward to the day of the open house. I get there mind you I had never been on the campus before and after finding the building. I started to walk around and see if there were any signs to direct me to the open house. After waiting for a while I and three other students also there for the open house happened to run into some current students in the program. We told them that we thought there was an open house today and they knew nothing about it. Long story short we found out that the open house was canceled.

Now what? So the current students called a faculty member and explained the situation to her. It was a Saturday afternoon and she dropped what she was doing and came to the school and gave us a personal tour of the entire building. In addition to taking the time to answer all of our questions. Honestly, it was better than I think the actual open house would’ve been. I had the opportunity to meet current students and get a personal tour. To this day, I'm very grateful to Dr. Crawford for taking the time out of her schedule to accommodate us. A week or so after the visit I followed her on linked in and to this day have stayed in contact with Dr. Crawford, who is also the current Program Director at Hampton University.
