Ready, Set, Go Part II
Today’s the big day! Today I meet with Dr. Dier, the admissions chairperson at Governors State University.
8:30 am
Thursday, September 22nd, any other day that wouldn’t be a problem unless I was at work, but this specific day I didn’t work until 1 pm. So why did I wake up in a panic mood? Here’s why, my appointment to meet with Dr. Diers, the admissions committee chairperson was scheduled for 9:00 am that day! I am usually really good with setting my alarm but on this highly anticipated day, I forgot. I have never moved so fast in my life. I woke up brushed my teeth, showered, and put clothes on all in a manner of 15mins. Now, anyone that knows me, knows that it takes me forever to get ready for any occasion but I was not going to be late for this very important meeting.
8:45 am
I left my house fully clothed in business casual attire. I didn’t have time to put my contacts in, so I slipped on my glasses. A normal drive would’ve taken me 20-25 minutes to reach the school, but I miraculously managed to pull up at exactly 9:00 am. Thank GOD!
9:00 am
To me, it was still unacceptable that I was not there 5-10mins early because of the severity of the meeting. It is extremely important to arrive early. Your first impression is everything, it’s something that cannot be taken back. As I pulled up just in time, I got out of my car and I did not walk, jog, or brisk walk, I RAN!
I ran until I was only a couple of inches away from his door and right before I went in, I took a deep breath, knocked on the door, and walked in with the biggest smile on my face.
I share this story to say that if you are passionate and dedicated there is nothing that you won’t do to make it happen.
“If you want to do something, you’ll find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse.” –Jim Rohn.
Without dedication, there is no purpose.
