Shadowing opportunity

When I was working as a tech in an outpatient setting, I worked with about 7 different therapists. I mentioned in a previous blog the importance of getting to know the therapist and creating conversation. One, because you want to leave a good impression, and two, you never know when you may need something. The importance of networking in PT cannot be overstated enough.

One day, I was talking to a therapist casually about shadowing in another setting in order to gain experience. At this point, I had well exceeded my required observation hours to apply for schools, but was looking for an opportunity that would help me stand out as an applicant. One of the therapists that I happened to be talking to mentioned that she had a colleague that works in an outpatient neuro setting. About one week later, she connected me with the right people, and I found myself shadowing at the number one rehabilitation hospital in the world.

Never underestimate the power of networking. That opportunity afforded me a job there later down the line. More details to come on this experience.
