Get rid of the, “I’ll go anywhere I get accepted mentality.”

I’ve always been a student in and outside the classroom. My most valuable lessons have resulted from failure. I believe that we are all students regardless of whether we are in school or not. Our story is a class, and if we learn from our mistakes, it’ll prevent others from making the same mistake. I once heard, “the only way to be unsuccessful is to stop learning.” No person is better than the next, and there is always room for growth. It’s taken me a while to come to this conclusion, but the way we think and talk affects us more than we may think. I’ve learned to accept the obstacles thrown my way and look at them as another opportunity for growth.

This past year has been a challenge for me. I felt as if things were turning around in my favor, and just when I thought things were going great, I was thrown another obstacle. I’ve always dreamed of becoming a physical therapist but making a dream a reality takes persistence and dedication. So I went for my dream I applied for the first time to10 schools rejected by everyone. So I reached out to all the schools and acquired about the reasoning behind my denial. I listened, made changes, and applied for a second time. The second time I applied to 11 schools received 2 interviews but was ultimately rejected by all of them. I was disappointed but not hopeless. I went back to the starting board. The next cycle came along, and I reapplied to some of the same schools and some new ones, a total of 8 schools: this time receiving one interview and one acceptance. I thought, wow, my hard work is finally paying off.  In reality, the school wasn’t right for me, and if I weren’t in such a rush, I would have realized it. Greatness doesn’t come overnight neither does success. I’m learning to accept that my time may not be now, but it’s coming. When that time is here, I’ll be ready.
